3 Thermostat Mistakes That Could Be Wasting Energy in Broadmoor, CO
As summer approaches, you want to cut down on the cost of cooling as much as possible here in Broadmoor, CO. One way to do that is to use the thermostat in such a way that it switches the AC on and off at the most opportune times and for an appropriate period of time. Many homeowners, though, commit some of the following errors with their thermostat, which may prevent them from seeing any savings.
Lowering the Set Point Too Much
The ideal set point for summer is 78 degrees Fahrenheit; this means the thermostat will kick the AC on only when the indoor temperature exceeds 78 degrees. Though this may seem high to some, and though everyone has their temperature preferences, it comes with the backing of the U.S. Department of Energy.
The main thing is to not crank down the thermostat when you feel the inside has become excessively warm. Some do this because they think it speeds up cooling when, in fact, the thermostat can do no such thing; an AC has one single speed.
Never Changing the Temperature
On the other hand, make sure to raise the set point a couple of degrees when no one is home or when everyone is asleep. You don’t need so much cool air during those times and it’s good to minimize AC usage then.
Shutting Off the Thermostat
Don’t turn off the thermostat completely when the home is empty, even if you’ll be going on an extended vacation, because this will lead to extreme heat and humidity levels. As a dealer in indoor air quality systems, we know what kind of damage high humidity can cause in homes.
